In addition, eateries are also located on Main Street (parallel to, and three blocks east of, Delaware Avenue). Main Street features the at-grade section of Buffalo’s light rail transit line. Several at-grade stations are located along this portion of Main Street, allowing easy access along approximately 1.5 miles of Main Street. No passenger fare is charged for the at-grade portion of the light rail line, although fares ($2 each way) are charged for travel in the below- ground portion of the light rail line. The light rail line is operated by the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (NFTA). The closest at-grade Metro Rail station to the conference venue is the Fountain Plaza Station, located at Main & Huron Streets. This station is 0.2 miles southeast of the conference venue.
Johnny D’s Restaurant (inside the Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel), 2 Fountain Plaza (The Hyatt occupies the northern end of the block bounded by Main Street, Pearl Street, and Huron Street; the hotel lobby and restaurant are easily accessed from the hotel’s back entrance, facing Pearl and Huron Streets). Anchor Bar, 1047 Main St. Distance: 0.93 miles from conference. Cuisine: Classic American bar fare with a focus on Buffalo-style chicken wings (Anchor Bar is the original creator of Buffalo wings). Menu includes wings with various sauces, sandwiches, burgers, and pasta dishes. Dining Style: Casual family-friendly restaurant and bar, lively atmosphere, sports-friendly, suitable for groups and informal dining. The Anchor Bar at 1047 Main St is located in downtown Buffalo and is roughly equidistant from the Allen/Medical Campus Station (underground) or the Summer–Best Station (underground) Metro Rail stations; each station is about a 6-minute walk (approximately 0.3 miles) to the Anchor Bar. This is the original Anchor Bar, where the modern concept of fried chicken wings and hot sauce was hatched in 1964 as pub-type comfort food; in effect, this is the national home of the chicken wing. In addition to this location, which is the original Anchor Bar, there are four other Anchor Bar locations, one in the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, two in Buffalo’s eastern suburbs, and one in Niagara Falls NY. Many people maintain the Anchor Bar serves the best chicken wings anywhere. Others, however, believe that the “best” wings are at almost any dive bar or pizza joint in the Buffalo area. Yes, wings in Buffalo are always better than those available anywhere else. In the Buffalo area, this abjectly bad-for-you culinary delight is known simply as, “wings”. It is only outside of western New York that anyone calls them, “Buffalo wings”. Obviously, American bison do not have wings.
